A French sack coat from around the 1930s.
This was purchased for around 80,000 yen at the famous store encore in Koenji, and has been carefully stored without being worn since purchase.
While it is often called a sack jacket nowadays, it used to be called a sack coat.
The history of the sack coat is very old, and it is said to have appeared in France around the 1840s, and gradually spread as a gentleman's street wear from around the 1860s.
There is no strict definition of a sack coat, but common features include a small collar, a small V-zone, and a rounded front that tapers towards the hem.
Looking at photos from that time, it can be seen that the style of closing only the first button and showing off the vest or pocket watch worn underneath was popular.
This particular piece is a wonderful item with a golden size and a condition that is unbelievable for something almost 100 years old.
The collar lining is black due to rubbing, but it is not torn and is in a position that is not visible when worn, so it can be worn without any problems even without taking it to a tailor.
The fabric is thick but has a luxurious wool with a crisp feel.
A deep brown-grey with an ecru stripe. Looking closely at the stripe, you can see blue threads, and there are several types of herringbone patterns woven between the stripes, making it a fabric that is incredibly elaborate by today's standards.
The lining is a beautiful black satin fabric.
There is also an atmospheric stamp inside the inner pocket.
How about a classic French look from a bygone era?
