Six (6) antique butter knives & (5) matching forks. It’s a luncheon set with lustrous mother-of-pearl handles, matching vine patterns on each sterling silver ferrule, & silver-plated (blunt) blades & fork tines. This set was made circa 1825-1866 by Meriden Cutler Co., Meriden, CT. Each silver-plated blade is stamped with the maker’s mark, as shown in the photo. The forks are not stamped as there’s nowhere to put such a stamp. However, some ferrules are stamped “STERLING”. The mother-of-pearl handles are iridescent & colorful. They’ve stood up to washing & use for over 150 years. Some pieces, especially the forks, show wear & tear.These are OLD; but they’re also beautiful & unique. Be sure to review the photos carefully. Smoke-free & pet-free home.The trick to keeping tarnish off these is, after use, wash & dry gently by hand, wrap in cloth & store in a plastic baggie.
