First edition, first printing hardcover copy of Lord of Dark Places by Hal Bennett (W. W. Norton & Company, 1970). Dark satire / mystery novel about a black man from the south and his move to the north in the civil rights era. A highly regarded but often overlooked author of boundary-pushing fiction. Jacket now protected in new (removable) archival sleeve but with moderate rubbing/scuffing to faces, shelf wear around the edges, and liquid damage causing waviness and staining. Chipping, creasing and small tears around edges of jacket. Liquid damage also to boards causing staining, ripple in cloth wrap to front cover and faint bowing. Cocked spine though binding remains strong. Liquid damage to text block as well causing waviness, stiffness and discoloration. See photos for condition.
