VINTAGE Zuni Carved Shell Birds Double Stranded with Silver Fetish NecklaceThis is a beautifully decorated carved shell/ MOP figural beaded double strand necklace with sterling silver. The necklace includes many tiny circular and round sterling silver beads as a base where you have a round (spherical) bead on each side of the MOP, carved shell bird bead The main, larger beads are of birds of various sizes and colors. There are 32 birds in total, all are carved, and most of the birds are color treated in bright colors. Some birds are more stout, and some are lean. You can see some of the natural orange found on the birds on some of the bird beads. The orange and white portions of the natural shell actually give more dimension to the artist's design. Eyes are carved onto the birds, and they are colored black.In addition to the figural bird beads, there are beads of sterling silver that accent each bird - quite characteristic of the Southwest. The hook clasp and horn shaped covers where the two strands on each side of the necklace come together are also silver tones, with the horns being marked sterling below a sun pictogram signature. The beads are all strung on a string that comes together with the horn shaped gather covers.
